Where will you stop?

road“No one is born successful. Success or failure is only determined by where you stop.”

After leaving the professional tennis circuit I had no idea what I was going to do for a living. A friend who worked at the truck dealership suggested that I come works for him. He saw first hand the hours every day I put into tennis so he felt if I could apply that work ethic in truck sales, I would be successful. I told my friend that I would give it a try, but only until, “something better came along.”

I’ll never forget my first day in the truck selling business. I didn’t have the $50 for a sales license, so the dealership advanced me the money. After returning from DMV with my license, my friend (now my sales manager) escorted me to my industrial metal desk, handed me a “Data Book” which had spec’s on the trucks that were available to purchase, and a telephone book. He then proceeded to pointed to the phone and say, “Now, go make my house payment.” I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know the first thing about commercial trucks. I opened the phone book to businesses that I thought might own a truck, and I started dialing.

My commercial truck sales career lasted 23 years. During my time at Trans West Ford Truck Sales in Fontana, I won numerous state and national awards along with EVERY sales contest that came my way. I then leveraged my experience selling trucks to enjoy a very successful mortgage career.

The point of the story is this, excuses will always be there for you. Opportunity will not. What are you going to do with YOUR opportunity?
