He wants his, ”Papa Time”.

I’m blessed to be able to work everyday alongside my oldest son. I pick him up every morning and we drive to the office together. Each morning when I arrive at his door I’m greeted by two beautiful boys, Alex (5) and Andrew (3). The second they see me at the door they run to me. I kneel down so they can hug me with reckless abandon. After the hug they recap everything that happened in the last 24 hours. They point out their “boo boos” and wait for me to kiss them better. They talk about the toys they played with, and the cartoons they’ve watched. They want to make sure I hear everything to the last detail.

Andrew & Alex

On the mornings I don’t pick my son up for work, the two boys ask, “where’s Papa?”. They want their “Papa” time. God longs to have this kind of relationship with us. As a child of God, when was the last time you ran into his arms in reckless abandon, longing to tell him everything that happened since the last time you spoke and asked (expectingly) for Him to kiss your boo boos?

I believe David had this kind of relationship with God. In Psalm 86 he says, “Pay attention, God, to my prayer; bend down and listen to my cry for help” (v.6). Like a parent lovingly bending down so that a child can whisper in their ear, God listens to the prayers of his children: “In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me” (v.7).

God wants “Papa Time” with you. He’s at the door now waiting for you to run to him…
