Mosquitoes…

I’ve read so many books on leadership over the years. Most of what is written is the same message, just packaged differently. When I came across this, I smiled. “Leadership is about influence. Everyone influences someone. Therefore, in a sense, everyone is a leader.”

I’ve heard it said that even the quietest, most introverted person will influence 10,000 other people during their lifetime. We all influence one another in all sorts of ways – from what to have for lunch, what series we binge watch, the kind of car we drive,  what movies to watch, and even the church we attend.

My life has been influenced by so many wonderful (and horrible) people. I recently wrote a book titled, “Living Life by Design”. The dedication section is three pages long…lol. Just as I have been influenced by others, inevitably what I do and say will influence others…for good or ill.

There is an African proverb that says, ‘If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito.’ Mosquitoes make a difference in an extremely annoying way (I can say this because I HAVE spent the night with a mosquito or two), but the principle is the same. One person CAN stop injustice. One person CAN be a voice for truth. One person’s kindness CAN save a life. Every person makes an influence.

You can choose today how you will influence! You can choose today how you will make a difference!

Just please, no mosquitos…
