People who know me often say, “You’ve never worked a real job a day in you life.” That, of course, is not true. I worked at a small convenience store for 3 months while in college. I hated it…lol. That’s the only 8-5 job I’ve ever had. The rest of my working career has been in sales where I made my own hours. I’m an entrepreneur at heart…always have been.
Early in my career I read book and took courses on sales. I was fascinated by how much emphasis was placed on body language. Especially ones facial expressions. When I became a Christian, and later involved ministry, I asked God to allow me to see in peoples hearts. A word of caution, be careful what you ask God for because he’s capable of giving it to you.
From that point on as long as I was spending time in prayer, and in Gods word, I could look into someone’s eyes and I could see pain, darkness, suffering, and often hidden things that I had no desire to see. This was a horrible burden as well as an incredible gift when ministering one-on-one with someone.

It is said, “You can tell a lot by looking at people’s eyes and faces.” We often say, We say, ‘Did you see the look on his face?’ As the old proverb says, ‘The face is the index of the mind.’ How about, ‘We can’t control the beauty of our face, but we can control the expression of it.’ It is also so true, ‘The eyes are the window to the soul.’ When you really want someone’s attention, you say, ‘Look into my eyes.’’
Gods word has much to say about faces and eyes. In Psalm 104 the writer contrasts the incredible satisfaction that comes from looking at Gods face, and terror when he hides his face from us. Sin creates a rift or barrier between us and God. When Adam and Eve sinned, they could no longer look at Gods face. They tried to hide from him. They were removed from his presence. God his his face from them, and they were terrified.
It is said, “If you want to get to know a person, just look at their 5 closest friends.” We often gaze at celebrities or professional athletes and try to reproduce their appearance and mannerisms. If we are indeed captivated by Jesus, spending time in his word and praying, we will be transformed into his image.
When those around you look at your face, or look into your eyes, what do they see?
