The sound was so loud, and intense, it was like total silence…

Many years ago while attending the San Bernardino Church of the Nazarene, I decided to write a book on what the Bible said about, “praise.” I spent months reading anything I could find on the subject of praise. I even purchased a cassette tape series called, “Establishing Praise.” I was determined and all-in.

The more I learned, the more I prayed. Then one evening when I was home alone, God lifted me up into his throne room. My eyes were not able to focus on anything specific. The sound of the praise was so loud, so intense and fervent, it was like total silence. I know that sounds strange…how can there be a defining sound and complete & utter silence at the same time…right? By the time I found myself on the living room couch again, I was laying down (I wasn’t able to stand in God’s throne room). What seemed like moments we’re actually hours.

After that experience I realized that prayer was the most important activity of my life. It was the way I developed a bond and intimate relationship with my Father in heaven. Like any relationship, communication can take many different forms. God communicated with me by bring me into his house so I could experience the magnitude of the praise uttered in His throne room.

Prayer is a true, two-way communication. Prayer involves listening to God as well as speaking to him. The main way in which we hear God today is through his word. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1) and the Bible is all about him.

As you pray today and spend time in His word, ask God to speak to you through it. He will…
