A longtime friend of mine, Richard (Pancho) Gonzalez donates blood on a regular basis. He typically posts his adventures on Facebook as a challenge for others to do the same. I’ve tried giving blood but because of Rheumatoid Arthritis, I’m not an acceptable candidate.

Some time ago an acquaintance posted something that caught my attention. His 15 year old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. Medically, her only hope of survival was to find a compatible donor. The doctors found a compatible donor who (sacrificially) was willing to give his bone marrow. The donation saved this young girls life. They never found out who the donor was because he requested to be anonymous.
As a Christian, you have the remarkable privilege of meeting your blood donor. Jesus came ‘to give his life as a ransom for many’ (Mark 10:45). At the last supper, when Jesus took the cup, he said: ‘This is my blood of the covenant’ (Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24). The ‘precious blood of Christ’ (1 Peter 1:19) is stressed throughout the New Testament. Through His blood:
*We are forgiven (Colossians 1:14)
*We are purified from every sin (1 John 1:7)
*We have peace and reconciliation (Colossians 1:20)
*We have life (John 6:53)
Can you imagine what it would be like for the family in the story above to meet the blood donor? I have the privilege of knowing the blood donor who saved my life.
How about you?
