Living Life by Design

When I was pastoring it was one of the most rewarding times of my life. Knowing that God was using me in marvelous ways was at times, overwhelming. I was living & breathing ministry. One evening at the alter I felt the Holy Spirt fill me and I declared, “Total Sanctification”. At that moment, carnal sin no longer had a hold of me. I was free. It was a glorious feeling.

When you’re life is surrounded by the things of God, you change, inside and out. However, once I left pastoring, my focus changed making life in the world difficult. I felt the pull of sin again. I cried out to God saying, “How then should I live?”

God promises peace, prosperity, long life and blessing on family life for those who walk in his ways. Psalm 128 tells use: ‘Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways’ (v.1), and that ‘You will eat the fruit of your labor’ (v.2). I began to slave away for money and success. I was never able to enjoy all that I had earned until I changed my focus.

But, ‘all you who fear God, how blessed you are! How happily you walk on his smooth straight road!… Enjoy the blessing! Revel in the goodness!… Stand in awe of God’s Yes. Oh, how he blesses the one who fears God! Enjoy the good life…’ (vv.1–6, MSG).

Our life on this earth may be short and, for many, full of trouble and difficulty. But the blessings are even greater and we have the promise of eternity (17:3). Eternal life is a quality of life that starts now and goes on for ever.

Today, bask in his blessings!

Today, walk in his ways!

Today, lead others to do the same!
