“In the Morning, Deep calls to Deep.”

There have been times in my life where I have been desperate to hear someone’s voice. When Russia invaded Ukraine, the whole world took a breathe. My youngest son who is serving in the 82nd Airborne was in Poland, just a few miles from the Ukrainian boulder. He was not able to communicate with us. We only had the news to tell us what was going on. My wife and I were total wrecks. All we wanted (and prayed for was to hear his voice).

There are occasions where I wake up in the morning and crave hearing Gods voice. It is an amazing blessing to be able to wake up each morning and know that God is with me and that he longs to speak to me: ‘Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!’ (Psalm 139:18, MSG). This is why I love to read the Bible first thing in the morning and write my blog. I am desperate to know God’s thoughts, and through my blog, be an encouragement to others.

King David was was another, desperate for God. He wanted to know God’s thoughts: ‘How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you’ (vv.17–18).

One of my favorite songs is, “In the Morning” by Steve Green. The song begins, “In the morning deep Calls to deep. In the morning you quietly speak. In the morning you find those who seek. In the morning…”

I encourage you to start each morning seeking Gods voice. Pray, search his Word and you’ll begin to hear his still, small voice. You’ll realize that you won’t be able to start a day without him…
