A two minute read for busy professionals to start their day (Monday-Friday) with something positive, inspiring and thought provoking.

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that there were two occasions in my life where God spoke to me in an audible voice. One of those occasions was in the shower…yes, it can happen. I was fervently asking God to speak to me. As my mind was racing, God simply said, “Stop!” “Listen!” I certainly stopped. I couldn’t breathe. As I listened I heard the water bouncing around the shower. I then heard pigeons outside the open window. I heard the distant sound of a hammer hitting wood. For the first time in a very long time, my mind was quiet, open, and I was listening.
God told me that my life was like a race…a sprint to be exact. I felt a sense of urgency which is what God wanted to convey. However, God didn’t specifically tell me what it was that I was supposed to do. He simply told me to listen, be open and proceed with haste. I began to ask questions…
So, how do we then find purpose? If God has a plan for me, what happens when I don’t follow it? Does God simply use someone else? But if God orchestrates the future, then he will know that I’ve already chosen not to follow. So why doesn’t he just choose someone else? I know, intense questions for so early in the morning.
How then do I understand Gods purpose for my life? God gives examples of average people whom he gives special abilities to in order to carry out specific tasks (Exodus 36:1). There were also those who walked away from their lives at the call of Jesus (Mark 1:16-20), and left everything behind.
Few of us have a Damascus Road experience as the Apostle Paul did (Acts 22:6-11). If it were easy to understand Gods purpose, there would be no doubt, and no need for faith. God gives us all a choice…we have free will to walk the path we choose. God desires an intimate, personal relationship with us, and desires for us to walk alongside him so he can guide, and direct.
God will give you purpose through action. Do something, and do it now. There was a time for plotting, planning and strategizing, but I believe it’s not now.
Today, we should all be in a full sprint (through action) to the Finnish Line…
