Death Barges In…It Doesn’t Knock

A two minute read for busy professionals to start their day (Monday-Friday) off with something positive, inspiring and thought provoking.

As I mentioned in a previous commentary, some months back I lost three friends/family members in the span of just a couple weeks. The first was one of my wife’s daycare kids from years ago. He was only 18 when he passed without warning. Then one of my college tennis teammates passed suddenly of a heart attack. And finally, my wife’s aunt passed after an 18 month battle with cancer.

To many people today, God seems a distant or irrelevant figure with little impact on their lives. My experience of weeks past as well as the message we find in Luke 12:35-59, each warns that there will one day be a reckoning. There is a danger in thinking that Jesus isn’t coming back soon, and we have the luxury of carrying on doing exactly what we like and that there will be plenty of time to get things done or put to things right. The truth is, none of us know when our work here on earth will be done and we will be called home.

Today, make every effort to use the gifts, talents, and resources God has blessed you with, for (the reality is) you may not have a tomorrow…

  1. I had a conversation with a guy once in regards to the end of our lives. His belief was good works would get him through the gates. After a very brief “no”, we (another colleague) expressed you can’t have enough good works to go where you want to go. And we talked about that last minute, “I believe you now God” story. Not all of us get that extra time to get our lives right, and it has to be a true belief and not just a verbal one. Hear today, gone tomorrow isn’t just a cute saying.
