Years ago when I was an Amway Distributor (a very proud 1000 PV pin holder) our Executive Diamond, Jim Floor encouraged us to read business books. He put out a reading list every month and expected everyone in his down-line to read. I hated reading because I was so dyslexic. However, I didn’t want to be the only one not reading so I made the decision to struggle through it.
The first book I picked up was, The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. It was originally published in 1952 and stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for 186 consecutive weeks. I love his quote, ‘When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.’ Much of what Norman Vincent Peale had to say was encouraging and helpful. I must say that I did feel ‘empowered’ after reading the book. But, the words of Jesus go way beyond the power of positive thinking.
Norman Vincent Peale said, ‘A positive mental attitude is a belief that things are going to turn out well, and that you can overcome any kind of trouble or difficulty.’ Jesus said, ‘With God all things are possible’ (Matthew 19:26). This is far more than the power of positive thinking. It is the power of God that makes what seems impossible, possible. Nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).
Knowledge is a wonderful thing but it can never replace wisdom. Knowledge is horizontal. It takes the simple and makes it difficult. Wisdom is vertical. It takes the difficult and makes it simple.
Today, make the time to seek Gods wisdom by spending time in his Word…
