Your second step in the GPA Professional Mortgage Loan Originator System is to answer the question, “Why?” for each item you listed on your Goal List. Look through your list and if you can’t verbalize your “why” in one sentence, then you’re dealing with a dream and not a real goal. Cross that “dream” off your list. Then, once you have your pre-screened list, filter it further by asking questions, like (when asking these questions, don’t confuse pleasure with happiness):
- Is this really MY goal?
- Will reaching this goal make ME happier, more prosperous or give me peace of mind?
- Is it consistent with my other goals?
- Can I emotionally commit myself to finish the goal?
- Can I “see” myself reaching this goal?
- Will reaching this goal make me more secure?
Once you’ve done this, take another piece of paper, write down one of your goals and then write out your “why” below it. Do this for each of the remaining goals on your list.
