Fear…

Fear is something we all experience. When God called me (years ago) to be a song evangelist, I was terrified. But, it was in the times that I felt the weakest, I began to completely rely on God. Paul was utterly dependent on the Holy Spirit to speak through him. ‘I was scared to death,’ writes the apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 2:3, MSG). He felt totally inadequate for the task that God had called him to, ‘But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it’ (v.4, MSG). However inadequate I felt, and BOY did I feel inadequate, I asked for the Holy Spirit to speak through me, and he always did.

What allowed me to stand on stage was my relationship with God. You see, the remedy for fear is a close relationship with the Lord – to dwell ‘in the shelter of the Most High’ and ‘rest in the shadow of the Almighty’ (Psalm 91:1). The opposite of fear is trust in God (v.2). He promises to rescue us ‘from hidden traps, shields us from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protects us – under them we’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm’ (vv.3–4). In the hundreds of concerts I gave over the years, not a single piece of rotten fruit coming from the crowd ever hit me…lol.

God raised Jesus from the dead, and in doing so, he freed us from the fear of death AND ALL OTHER FEARS AS WELL. ‘Under his wings you find refuge’ (1 Corinthians 2:4). We do not need to be afraid about what’s in front of us, or even in the future.

Regardless of what you may be facing today, the remedy for fear is a close relationship with the Lord…
